Roadway Construction

Shallowford Square's New Playground

Shallowford Square will soon be the home to a new playground!

After working with staff, contractors, and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the vision for the new structure is getting closer to being a reality.

The playground will be even larger than the previous structure, with a total of 5,000 square feet of play space. It will also be more inclusive, designed for players with a range of abilities and of different ages. Part of the design includes a long sloping pathway, which will be wheelchair accessible.

A new swing set will be installed near the playground structure, replacing the previous one.

There will also be more interactive features, such as new spinning Tic-Tac-Toe panels, rock climbing, and spinning gears. Two large canopies will cover either end of the playground, providing shade.

The previous playground at Shallowford Square was aging and needed to be replaced. The new playground will be much larger and player-friendly.

Robinhood Roundabout

Lewisville Vienna Road and Robinhood Road Intersection Roundabout

Construction on the new roundabout at Lewisville-Vienna Road and Robinhood Road is began in Spring 2026, and residents may see overhead power lines being moved to new poles already.

The project will take about a year, with an expected end date of Spring 2027. Most of the work is planned for the summer months to reduce impacts on school traffic. This will improve safety and keep traffic flowing more freely.

Here are the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) guidelines for using a roundabout.

When approaching a roundabout, slow down. Then, yield to any vehicles or bicyclists who are already in the roundabout.

Everyone in the roundabout moves in a counterclockwise direction. Drivers in the roundabout do not yield to approaching vehicles from the surrounding roads.

Drivers should use turn signals when exiting the roundabout and always yield to pedestrians using the crosswalk.

Moser Property Greenway

New Green Space

The property at 6665 Shallowford Road was graciously donated to the Town of Lewisville by Fred Moser in 2016. Moser requested that this land be used as a public green area for residents to enjoy.

Town boards and committees are involved in the design and landscaping of the greenway area. Boards and Committees will continue to help with this project.

We're doing our research! More information about the history of this property is coming soon.

Project completion is expected when the North Carolina Department of Transportation deems the connecting Great Wagon Road sidewalks accessible for pedestrians.

Great Wagon Road

From Colonial Path to Modern Connection

Construction of the Great Wagon Road is making progress. North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) crews are relocating overhead utilities and installing underground infrastructure, including water, sewer, and natural gas lines.

Although the contract extends to 2029, we anticipate the project to be completed earlier. This project will ease traffic on Shallowford Road and control our growth while supporting change.

Beginning in the mid 1700s, settlers in the northeast began a southern migration on what was then called the Philadelphia Wagon Road. This path, traveling from Pennsylvania to Alabama, ran through Lewisville on its way to the Shallowford crossing of the Yadkin River. The area became a common overnight resting place for travelers.

Over time, the path became known as the Great Wagon Road, and the Lewisville area grew until becoming incorporated in 1991 as a Town. Town founders knew that more growth would come with time, and that traffic on Shallowford Road would increase. Typically, when that happens, the road would be widened, adding more lanes. However, founders wanted to preserve the small-town quaintness of Lewisville.

When the first Lewisville Comprehensive Plan was developed in the 1990’s, council and staff included the construction of the Great Wagon Road to run parallel with Shallowford Road, better accommodating traffic, while improving connectivity in the Town.

Great Wagon Road plans also ensure it will be pedestrian-friendly and improve safety for motorists and bicyclists. The completion of GWR will provide opportunities for controlled growth and a friendly downtown area for the community to gather together.
